Orange Lions Clubs Charity Carnival has been canceled for this year.
With concerns of the spreading of COVID-19, the Orange Lions Club has been monitoring the virus and during their Monday evening meeting decided the carnival would not happen this year.
“Our intention has been to run the carnival if it would be safe for members, volunteers, and the public,” Orange Lions Club President Kasey Burnitt said. “As the carnival takes us months to plan, we must make a decision now. In the interest of public safety and to reduce the risk of exposing all carnival goers to the virus, we will be canceling this year’s carnival.”
Between the weather and storms devastating the area, the carnival has had some rough years recently. It is an annual fundraising event to help fund the projects local Lions Clubs provide throughout the year from building a wheelchair ramp to planting pecan trees.
“We will continue to assess when it will be safe to schedule our next carnival,” Burnitt said. “We hope you understand how difficult this decision was, but we will always err on the side of safety when it comes the well-being of our friends and neighbors.”
