LITTLE CYPRESS — If it was a prizefight, the referee would have stopped it early.
Unfortunately, there is no longer a 15-run rule after three innings in District 22-4A softball.
On Friday night, Little Cypress-Mauriceville put the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks into a “frenzy” or maybe even a “frenzel” as the Lady Bears cruised to a 28-1 victory in 22-4A action at Lady Bear Field.
The Frenzels — senior Brianna and sophomore Bailey — had huge nights for the Lady Bears (18-2, 3-0), who are No. 1 in the latest Class 4A Texas Girls Coaches Association state poll.
Bailey Frenzel had three hits and seven runs batted in. She belted two home runs, one of them a grand slam and added a double.
Brianna Frenzel notched four hits, including a home run and two doubles as she drove in five runs.
Both of them produced on the mound as well.
Bailey Frenzel tossed the first inning, allowing a hit while fanning one and walking one. Brianna then came in and mowed them down as she hurled the final four frames, allowing two hits while striking out nine.
It was a tough outing for H-J pitcher Cheyenne Lee. She worked four innings, allowing 18 hits while striking out two and walking eight. The Lady Hawks made seven errors behind her.
The Lady Bears scored four runs in the first inning as JoAnna Henry, who had three hits, had a leadoff single. Ally White, who had two hits, singled and Brianna Frenzel also singled to set up Bailey Frenzel’s monster grand slam hit dead over the centerfield fence.
The second inning was a true nightmare for the Lady Hawks as LC-M sent 19 batters to the plate, scoring 16 runs on eight hits as they led 20-1 by the end of the inning.. Lady Bear catcher Olivia Leavings batted three times in the frame.
Brianna Frenzel belted a three-run double to right-center to make it 7-1. Henry and White each had RBI singles in the frame. Bailey Frenzel roped a two-run double and standout senior shortstop Renna Toomey, who was 4-for-5, crushed a two-run home run over the centerfield wall. Toomey also had two doubles.
Brianna Frenzel had a RBI double in the third and then the Frenzel duo capped the game off with back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning with Brianna’s being a two-run bomb.
McKenzie Comeaux had a RBI double for the Lady Hawks in the top of the first inning.
Bailey Wright had a double for the Lady Hawks in the fifth.
The Lady Bears will be off Tuesday and will resume 22-4A action next Friday when they visit the Lumberton Lady Raiders.
