It’s Election Day as I write this.  It’s an overwhelming feeling; wondering what the outcome of our country will be.  Depending on what you believe, depends on how you will view the countries status.

Aren’t you glad God is in control of the outcome?

The Bible records many good and bad Leaders.

In Daniel 4:17 the prophet Daniel interpreted a dream that Nebuchadnezzar had.  Daniel explained that God gave Nebuchadnezzar this vision to show that the Most-High, rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever He will.   Pray that our rulers want to seek God.

Sadly, Nebuchadnezzar did not listen to the Godly advice he was given.

In Daniel 2:20-21, Daniel stated, “Praise the name of God forever and ever … He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings”.

In Romans 13:1 the apostle Paul was writing to Christians living in the capital city of the Roman Empire; “All authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God”.

But just because God placed them there, does not mean that they will seek God.

In the book of Kings, it talks about King Ahab, son of Omri, who did more evil in the eyes of the Lord, than any of those before him.

Why do you think God allows bad rulers?  I think it is so we, God’s people, would recognize God as the “just” or “fair” Leader, and cry out for mercy because we the people are the ones that suffer from bad leaders.

Leader’s bad decisions show up in the stock market, the housing units, the banking, the food prices, etc.

There were great leaders in the Bible such as Solomon, David, just to name a few.  They were not perfect, but full of wisdom, seeking Godly counsel.  That’s the key.  Men are human, so it’s important they seek Godly counsel.

Some are just selfish, looking out only for wealth, power and their best interest.  The Bible tells us to pray for our Leaders, whether they are good or bad.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 states: “I urge then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”

I use the weekly, “five-finger” reminder.  Thumb is myself, my family and friends.  The index finger is my church and Pastor.  The middle finger is for all my community, neighborhood, schools, etc.  Ring finger is for all those in Government and authority, and my little finger is for all the weak, poor and less fortunate countries.

So, even if you don’t agree with the opinions of others, pray for them.  Pray that we all get along.  Pray for peace.  This is God’s will.

Let’s be the good servants we are supposed to be and pray for one another and our leaders.  The outcome will be better, no matter who God allows to be in charge.
