VIDOR — One man on a bicycle kept an officer on his toes on Sunday as he attempted to evade and escape multiple times once captured.

An officer on patrol at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Sunday spotted an individual traveling the wrong direction in the 900 block of North Main Street causing traffic to swerve to avoid him.

Upon seeing the officer in the marked patrol car, the individual began peddling faster and changed direction traveling behind a bank in the 900 block of North Main.

When the officer yelled out his open window to stop, the bicyclist, Corey Allen Ford, 24, dropped a bag of tools that he was carrying and rode towards the 800 block of North Main at the Cross Roads Shopping Center.

The officer activated his emergency lights as the bicyclist rode between cars to avoid the officer. When the officer pulled along side the person, Ford jumped from his bicycle causing it to strike the patrol car.

Ford jumped to his feet and attempted to run on foot.

The officer deployed his taser and the person was taken into custody.

The officer placed Ford in the rear passenger seat of his patrol unit with the door open. When the officer reached into his front seat of his patrol unit, Ford leaped from the vehicle and ran.

Ford was taken into custody with the help of a citizen at the underpass of Interstate 10 and Main Street in Vidor.

The officer was walking Ford back to his patrol unit when he collapsed to the ground.

The officer then loosened his grip to call for an ambulance.

Ford, again, jumped to his feet and began running.

A citizen was able to position his vehicle blocking Ford who then ran into the side of the vehicle.

Ford was detained and leg restraints were placed on him.

Acadian Ambulance Service transported him to Baptist Hospital before being transported to the Orange County Jail.

Ford told the officer the reason he ran was that he thought he had felony warrants and did not want to go back to prison.

It was determined that Ford had the following warrants:

No Drivers License, Fail to maintain Financial Responsibility and Evading Detention / Escape.
