Firefighters from Orange ESD 1 are battling a house fire at approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of North DeWitt Street in Vidor.
An elderly lady lived alone in the residence and was able to escape safely, according to witnesses on the scene.
The carport was fully engulfed with flames when the firefighters arrived. The fire then spread to the house.
First responders were delayed in fighting the fire due to electrical lines and had to wait for Entergy to cut the power to the location.
There was a shortage of available volunteer firefighters at the scene due to the available volunteers not having proper bunker gear for safety reasons.
Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll assisted in fighting the blaze,
Carroll is an active firefighter.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time and no injuries are reported.
