WEST ORANGE — On a cool, brisk night for the District 22-4A Track & Field Championships, some super performances from Orange County tracksters were had along with both the Bridge City Cardinals and Lady Cardinals capturing the overall team titles at Dan Hooks Stadium Thursday night.

The Bridge City boys won with 132.5 points and West Orange-Stark was second with 110.

The Lady Cardinals captured the crown with 161 points with Silsbee a distant second with 141.

There were plenty of big individual winners as well.

Orangefield received a pair of big first-place finishes in the middle distances as Drew Worthy won the 800 meters in 2:04.57 and teammate Ryan Deutsch blazed to a winning time of 51.06 in the 400 meters.

For the host Mustangs, Chaka Watson, who was the high-point boy performer in the meet, captured the 300-meter hurdles in 41.62 and was second in the 110-hurdles.

LC-M’s Eli Peveto dominated in the 1,600 meters just like he did in the 3,200 meters on Monday with a winning time of 4:36.33.

The Mustang boys captured both the 800-meter realy (1:31.67) and the 1,600-meter relay (3:32.02).

On the girls side, Bridge City’s Kaylea Smith ran a 12.92 to capture the 100 meters and Orangefield’s Maddison Helm recovered after falling in the 400 meters and gutted it out a short time later by claiming the 1,600 meters in 5:40.50.

Bridge City’s Rylee Oceguera was the high-point girl of the meet.

The top four places in each event will now advance to a 4A Region III Area Round Meet, which will be held at Jasper High School Apr. 18.
