West Orange proclaims Jan. 21 – 27 as School Choice Week

West Orange City Council promptly proclaimed January 21 – 27 as City of West Orange School Choice Week in association with the National School Choice Awareness celebration during that same time period during the Monday evening meting.
Texas will celebrate with 3,957 events, meetings, and activities across the Lone Star State.
Election Day for the city is May 5, 2018 with three alderman positions at stake currently held by Mike Shugart Sr. with 12 years of service, Dale Dardeau, and Shirley Bonnin, both with 23 years of service each.
All three candidates ran unopposed in the 2016 general election.
Candidates for office must file for a place on the ballot between January 17 and February 16, 2018.
In the general election of 2015 approximately seven percent of the total 1,907 registered voters actually voted; a 60 percent increase compared to the general election of 2013.
Police Chief Mike Steely announced the closure of Farm to Market Road 1006 between Irving and Forman streets due to repair work scheduled for the pedestrian overpasses along Chemical Row starting February 12 at 5 p.m.
Repair work will extend for 10-days straight, including weekends requiring the closure of Farm to Market Road 1006 between those two streets. Traffic will be rerouted onto Western Avenue during repairs.
