Barbara “Bobbie” Corley Nugent, 86, of Orange passed away on December 1, 2017, peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at North Orange Baptist Church. Officiating will be Reverend Scott McIntosh and Reverend John Bickham. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange, Texas. Visitation will be at 4 p.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, Texas. Born in Jones, Louisiana, on September 24, 1931, she was the daughter of T.A. “Jack” Corley and Julia Margaurite Dawson Corley. Bobbie earned her degree from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She was a longtime member of North Orange Baptist Church, and sang in the N.O.B.S. Choir. She was a member of Sunset Grove Country Club Womens Golf Association, the Texas State Womens Amateur Golf Association, and a volunteer at Shangri La Gardens where she was able to nurture her green thumb. Bobbie was a talented and legendary athlete and an avid golfer. She and her husband Earl enjoyed traveling to play golf all over the country with close family members and friends. Bobbbie was a P.E. teacher at West Orange Cove School District where she coached for over 30 years. She was instrumental in starting the girls Stark High School golf team and led them to several district and regional championships. She was also well known in the Golden Triangle as a skilled bowler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Nugent; brothers, Jimmy Corley and Harold D. Corley; and granddaughter, Marci Nugent.
She is survived by her sons, Craig Nugent and wife Pam, and Raymond Nugent and wife Jessica; daughter, Connie Nugent and husband Louis Moore; granddaughters, Mandi Chesson, Melodi Larkin, Cressa Hebert, and Devon Hill; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Dupree and husband Mercer B., Jackie Williams and Judy Despino and husband Sammy; brother, Nick Corley and wife Marie; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Aaron Chesson, Channing Larkin, Jody Despino, Keith Certa, Jack Corley and Kevin Corley. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Despino, Scott Corley, Keith Corley, and Paul Corley.
The family would like to thank the Harber Hospice staff, especially Ladawn Waterford for their wonderful and excellent care and to Greta Wilson, Geraldine Beasley, Veronica Guillory and Velma Hopkins for their love and compassion in their care for their mother.
