Thrift and Gifts Open House and Wesley United Methodist Church annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday are Christmas traditions for early shopping.
Wesley UMC Holiday Bazaar is annually held on the second Saturday in November. The Holiday Bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 11. The Holiday Bazaar has to be modified this year due to Hurricane Harvey.
The church will be selling new – fresh crop Durham Pecans and Walnuts, Taco Soup, garlic pickles, and preserves. They will have the Sweet Shop and hot lunches of Links and Boudain.
Across the street, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. is Thrift and Gift Open House. It too will have some modifications to the event as the Christmas and Holiday Rooms will not be open. However, items from the rooms will be available in the main store. The Bargain Room will also be open on Saturday.
The vendor from Cypress has come with her Halloween, Fall, and Christmas Wreaths and table arrangements.
Women and men’s jeans, long jackets, blazers, and long coats will also be marked down to $1 during the Open House.
On hand, will also be The Quilters. The women meet on Tuesdays and Thursday each week and currently have a finished quilt to raffle. A drawing will be held in December. The quilt will be on display this Saturday.
Volunteers were busy on Tuesday as they set up displays and prepare for the annual Open House.
Marie Bonnin, a young quilter, has been quilting with the group for two years. A quilter is judged by how many years she has been a quilter.
“I learned how to quilt in Lumberton,” Bonnin said. “”I just love it here. I always have fun.”
Bonnin hopes to be able to attend on Saturday.
Queen Quilter, Velma Couture, has quilted for over 30 years with Thrift and Gift.
“I quilted at the original location,” Couture said as she hand quilted a hand embroidered pillow sham with her niece, Barbara Miles.
Thrift and Gift is located at 350 37th Street (between Salvation Army and Sabine Credit Union).
