Conference Organizer of the Newton County Genealogy Conference Dickie Dixon for 2016 is looking for a few good men and women to serve as volunteers for this year’s conference. On February 12th, sixteen genealogy speakers will descend on Newton to put on the free, all day conference to be held at the Newton County Museums History Center and Genealogical Library, the Newton County Civic Center, the Newton Library, the Newton County Clerk’s Office, Eagles’ Landing, and possibly the Powell Hotel. Topics will range from finding black and white kinship to the files of the Southern Claims Commission to using an abstract and title company to the descendants of Charles Darwin to the library archives to tracing the El Camino Real.
To accommodate use of the Newton County Land and Title Company alone, the Conference requires sixteen volunteers alone. Volunteers are needed to register attenders, take money for the luncheon, and greet attenders at the luncheon. To receive a conference schedule, please call Dickie Dixon at (936) 240-8378. The public can email Dickie atdickie.dixon@hotmail.com To sign up as a volunteer, contact Dickie in the above ways, or John Jefferson at (409) 381-9403, or email him atjeff75966@yahoo.com
