Train strikes vehicle sending man to hospital with moderate injuries

PRESS RELEASE — On Sunday January 24, 2016 at approximately 6:14 p.m., the Lake Charles Police Department received a call in reference to a train hitting a vehicle at the railroad crossing at Ryan Street and Railroad Avenue.
Upon arrival it was discovered that a white Chevrolet Avalanche driven south bound by a white male, ignored the railroad crossing arms, warning lights, and ringing bell. The driver attempted to drive around the railroad crossing arms and his vehicle was impacted by a train traveling westbound on the tracks.
The driver of the truck, later identified as Christopher Hebert of Lake Charles, was transported to St. Patrick’s Hospital by Acadian Ambulance with moderate injuries. The driver was cited for Driving While Intoxicated and Failure to Yield for Railroad Crossing Signal.
