Work at Golden Triangle Polymers hit a milestone recently with the completion of heavy haul equipment that included 200 barge transfers, 400 modules and pieces of equipment moved and completed in 21 months.

To do so, GTP and its contractors worked with county, local municipalities and communities, Texas Department of Transportation and law enforcement agencies to manage the heavy haul movements.

Construction on the $8.5 billion project will continue with an expected start-up in 2026, according to officials.

The multi-billion dollar project, which is a joint venture between Chevron Phillips Chemical and QatarEnergy, has created 4,500 construction jobs and will have 500 permanent positions once complete.

The economic impact to the community is large.

It is estimated that the project will generate an estimated $50 billion for the area in economic output over 20 years during construction and operation,” Emily Mellen, community relations representative for the Port Arthur and Orange Plants, said.

GTP has had significant community engagement in 2024 including:

  • Golden Triangle Polymers donated $700,000 in company and employee charitable giving
  • GTP employees spent 1,605 hours volunteering
  • $50.8 million was spent on employee wages and benefits
  • $2.1 million in taxes were paid to school, city and county entities
