PORT ARTHUR — Authorities have identified an area woman killed Monday night after being struck by a U.S. Postal Service vehicle while she attempted to cross the street.

Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett said the woman is identified as Laura Vanessa Martinez-Segura, 52, of Port Arthur.

Burnett has ordered an autopsy.

The fatal collision took place at approximately 6 p.m. in the 4300 block of Procter Street in Port Arthur.

Police Chief Tim Duriso said the woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

The Postal Service worker did stop after the crash and is cooperating with police, Duriso said.

The incident is under investigation.
