VIDOR — The LC-M Lady Bears used a furious fourth quarter rally to tie the game and then made the clutch plays when it mattered most to secure a thrilling 50-48 double overtime win over the Lumberton Lady Raiders.

The game was held at a neutral site court at Vidor High School as both teams were tied in district play and looking for better playoff seeding as the bi-district round begins on Monday, Feb. 10, and Tuesday, Feb. 11. The victory gives LC-M the better seeding. Its playoff opponent, game time and location are still to be determined.

The Lady Bears (26-8) fell behind 10=8 after the first quarter as Lumberton’s Madagyn Boudoin started the scoring with a three-point play after being fouled, but Eden Frenzel tossed in five of her 21 points for the game in the first quarter to keep LC-M close.

The second quarter started slower as both teams defenses stiffened and forced multiple turnovers, but Boudoin kept the Lady Raiders out front with four straight points until Emily Smith of LC-M drained a three-point shot with just two seconds left to give the Lady Bears a 16-15 lead at halftime.

Lumberton outscored LC-M 10-4 in the third quarter and looked to start pulling away as Gracelyn Herrington made back-to-back three point shots for the Lady Raiders to give. Lumberton lead 25-20 at the end of the third.

It was more of the same to start the fourth quarter as Boudoin made another three-point play after a foul to give Lumberton its biggest lead of the night, 28-20. However, that is when the Lady Bears started their comeback as the team made five consecutive free throws and a three-point shot by Mallory Russell cut the Lady Raiders lead to two points. LC-M took its first lead of the second half when Frenzel hit a three point shot with 1:35 remaining on the game clock.

Keylie Washburn made seven crucial free throws in the fourth quarter as LC-M outscored Lumberton 17-12 in the frame to send the game to OT tied 37-37.

The first overtime ended with the score tied 44-44as the Lady Bears were unable to convert the final possession of the period.

It looked as if Lumberton was going to have the final chance to steal the win with the game tied 48-48 with 18 seconds remaining, but Washburn made a key steal on a Lumberton pass and was fouled as she headed down court. Washburn made both free throws to give the Lady Bears the two point lead with 11 seconds left.

As Lumberton once again pushed the ball up the court as the clock ticked away, Amaya Meadows stole the ball for LC-M and dashed back the other way to seal the game for the Lady Bears as the clock expired.

Frenzel finished the game with 21 points for LC-M, while Washburn had 19 points on the night. Boudoin scored 21 points for Lumberton, while Herrington finished the game with 14 points for the Lady Raiders.
