The owner of a local small-town staple has sadly passed away.
Luther Daniel “Danny” Brack, owner of K-Dan’s Super Foods in Orangefield, died at the age of 82 on Sep. 15 surrounded by family.
“His vision and dedication helped shape the store into the welcoming place it is today,” a post on the K-Dan’s Facebook page reads. “We are committed to honoring Danny’s legacy and invite you to join us in celebrating his life and his impact. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.”
Born Sep. 21, 1941 in Leesville, Louisiana, Brack was described as “determined” from a young age. He sold peas by the road to pay for school clothes for his siblings and shined shoes for 10 cents so he could get Christmas gifts for his mother and sisters.
His first job was at a meat market, where he learned the skills which would serve him in future endeavors. He eventually became the owner of his own business, Danny’s, in West Orange before expanding with the ever-popular K-Dan’s location in Orangefield.
All together, Brack spent 69 years in the grocery business and leaves behind a lasting legacy in the Orange County area.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry; children, Dan, Darwin, Jeff and Lori; siblings, Norma, Audrey, and David; plus many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange,Thursday. Brack was laid to rest at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in Orange.
