Orange County is marking National Economic Development Week from May 6-11, 2019, to celebrate the contributions of positive economic development and explain the role of the profession in our local community. The week’s activities promote stewardship of policies that government undertakes to meet broad economic objectives, as well as programs explicitly directed at improving the business climate through business finance, marketing, neighborhood development, business retention and expansion, technology transfer, real estate development, and legislative leadership.
The 2019 celebration will commence on Monday, May 6th, at the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament, and continue in Commissioners Court on Tuesday, May 7th, with the presentation of a resolution in support of Economic
Development Week. Together with the City of Orange Economic Development Corporation, Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce, Bridge City Chamber of Commerce and Vidor Chamber of Commerce, the Orange County Economic Development Corporation will host the Developing Our Future – Leadership Lunch at Orange County Convention and Expo Center on May 8 at 11 a.m. The week’s activities will conclude on Thursday with a VIP tour of Jefferson Energy Companies’ Orange County terminal.
Now in its fourth year, National Economic Development Week was created by the International Economic Development Council, the largest professional membership organization for economic developers, in 2016 to recognize the unique role that economic development has in creating vibrant communities with strong economies. More than 250 communities participated in the 2018 campaign across the U.S. and Canada.
