BRIDGE CITY — The Bridge City Cardinals, sparked by Peyton Havard’s three-run walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh, defeated the Evadale Rebels 5-3 in non-district action at Young Stadium Saturday.
The Cardinals 14-6-2, 5-1) finished with six hits while the Rebels, always a solid Class 2A unit, had eight hits.
The Cardinals led 2-0 after the first inning but the Rebels rallied back and eventually took a 3-2 lead with two runs in the top of the sixth before Havard’s heroics in the seventh.
The Cardinals saw plenty of pitchers get a little work including Logan Hamm, Sam Carpenter, Slade Foreman and Jaxon Luna.
The Cardinals take on Hamshire-Fannett in District 22-4A action Monday night.
