Officer involved shooting under investigation

A Port Arthur Police Officer attempted to stop and detain a male subject who was walking in the roadway carrying a large weapon at 4:20 p.m. on Friday at the 1600 block of Kansas in Port Arthur.
The officer exited his patrol vehicle and gave the subject numerous verbal commands to drop the weapon.
The subject failed to comply with the officer’s commands and continued advancing towards him.
At this time the officer feared for his safety and fired several rounds from his service weapon striking the individual, according to a press release.
The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Numerous independent witnesses corroborated the officers account of the shooting. This incident is currently under investigation by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, and the Port Arthur Police Department CID.
