Rudolph “Rudy” Lege, 87, of Groves passed peacefully to his eternal home on Sunday, November 11, 2018.

Rudy was born August 19, 1931, in Abbeville, Louisiana. He moved to Port Arthur, Texas with his family and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. Rudy bravely chose to serve our country by joining the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in San Diego and proudly served as a Yeoman from 1950-1954 during the Korean Conflict.

After his military service Rudy moved his new family to Port Arthur Texas and began to work at the Texaco Refinery and Huntsman Chemical in the Loading and Shipping Unit. After 38 years of service Rudy retired from Texaco and happily began his new, favorite career; helping to care for his grandchildren. They enjoyed countless trips to the park, bike rides, zoo trips and everything fun.

Rudy has been a faithful member of The Immaculate Conception Church, in Groves. He has enjoyed many hobbies and activities throughout his life. He served as the Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 86, was a Certified Red Cross Water Safety instructor, a member of the OCAW 4-23 and enjoyed gardening and working in his yard.  He spent 12-15 years as a member of the YMCA and would daily swim 35 laps. We often joked that he was in better shape than any of his children.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents Rodolph Lege Sr and Olite(Leblanc); sister, Pearl Trosclair; his loving wife,  Margaret “Rita” (Zummo) Lege and their infant daughter Ellen Ann.

Survivors include his son, Victor Lege and wife Diana of Groves; two daughters; Barbara Dardeau and husband, Dale of Orange and Janet Myers and her husband, Chris of Vidor; one sister, Eva Brown of Temple; and two brothers,  Gilbert Lege of Groves and Eugene Lege and his wife, Pat Whitton, of Houston. Rudy’s pride and joy were his eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  Grandchildren are Hayley Raymer and husband Jeff, Lindsey Brecheen and husband, Keith, Kelsey Dardeu-Hurd and her husband Jordan Hurd, Megan Hood and her husband Clayton, Nicholas Lege, Jaycie Dardeau, Blaine Myers, and Bryce Myers. Great grandchildren are Owen Raymer, Ella Raymer, Reid Brecheen, and Breelyn Hood.

Rudy lived a long life of loving and providing for his family and he will be forever cherished by those who knew him. Our family would like to sincerely thank the team of caregivers who provided 4 years of loving care; Kacha, Louella, Mathilda, Carmell, Fran, Baylee and Hannah.

The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him. Proverbs 20:7
