OC runners have times set for State CC Meet Saturday

ROUND ROCK — A slew of runners across the state of Texas will converge on Old Settler’s Park Saturday for the UIL Cross Country State Meet and five Orange County runners will be aiming for medals and top finishes.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville senior Eli Peveto punched in yet another state ticket as the District 22-4A champion won the Class 4A Region III title by covering the 5-kilometer course in 16:15.9. It will mark the fourth straight year that Peveto has qualified for the State Meet.
Orangefield will send three runners to 3A competition.
On the girls’ side, Lady Bobcat Maddison Helm, District 22-3A champion, will run after placing second at regionals, covering the 3,200-meter course in 12:18.6 to earn second while her sister Katelyn Helm will join her after she was sixth at regionals with a 12:37.1.
Bobcat freshman Payton Wrinkle finished a solid 16th at regionals with a time of 18:04.0 in the 5-K and was one of two freshman at the 3A Region III regionals that advanced to state.
Bridge City’s Kaylen Smith, the 22-4A champion, will also compete in the 4A state girls race after she finished 13th at regionals with a time of 12:58.6.
The Helm sisters and Smith will run the Class 3A girls race at 12:10 p.m. Wrinkle will compete in the 3A boys race at 12:40 p.m. Peveto will take off in the Class 4A boys race at 1:50 p.m. Silsbee’s David Wright, the District 22-4A runnerup behind Peveto, will also run in the 4A race.
