Planting Asparagus, Composting, and Recycling Class
The Orange County Master Gardeners Assn. in conjunction with the Field of Plenty will be presenting a fall program on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at the Field of Plenty on Wickard St behind Orange Christian Services on planting asparagus, composting and recycling. Dot Chauvin will present a slide presentation on her book “Asparagus Tips”. The Master Gardeners will explain how to “Compost it-Don’t Bag It” and the Trashy Ladies will go over recycling in Orange County. The cost is $20, which includes an autographed copy of Mrs. Chauvin’s book and 2 raffle chances for a composter. Payment will be collected the day of the event at the Field of Plenty gate. Orange County Friends (OCF) news
The OCF Book Club is moving right along with its second book of the year, “The Madonnas of Leningrad, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, in Luigi’s Italian Restaurant, corner of Strickland and MacArthur Boulevard. The reviewer will be Diane Grooters. In September, Grooters reviewed the book, “Ordinary Grace.” Members eat and take part in the book review each month. Intro to Beekeeping class
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office in conjunction with the Orange Apiary Committee is having an Intro to Beekeeping class on December 8, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Check-in will be at 8:30 a.m. This is a free class and will cover the topics of Equipment, Personal Protective Gear, Honey & Hive Production, and Source for Bees. Snacks will be provided. This will be held at the Orange County Convention and Expo Center at 11475 FM 1442, Orange, TX. Please RSVP by November 21, by calling the Extension Office at 409-882-7010.
American Association of University Women (AAUW) news

Golf Tournament
Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce (GOACC) is hosting its 9th Annual Golf Tournament Monday, Oct. 22, 2018, at Sunset Grove Golf Course and Country Club. GOACC will donate a percentage of net proceeds to Non-Profit of the Year recipient United Way of Orange County. GOALS
The Greater Orange Area Literacy Services (GOALS) is now offering Reading, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Graduate High School Education (GED) tutoring to all adults 16 and older at no cost. Volunteer tutors are willing to meet once or twice a week at various locations.

Do Well Be Well with Diabetes
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension of Orange County is having a free Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes Series. This is a 5-week series on every Monday in October (Oct. 22, & 29) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Join us in learning how to prevent and control your type 2 diabetes, eat healthy and much more. Please attend all of the classes to get the full educational benefit. The classes will be located at the Extension Office on 1442 in Orange. Hand Quilting Demonstration

Crisis Counseling Program
Southeast Texas Disaster Assistance and Crisis Response Services through Region 5 Education Service Center is offering assistance with identifying needs and resources as well as referrals for available disaster assistance resources and crisis counseling for those struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
