45th Anniversary Sale
The Thrift and Gift is holding a 45th Anniversary Sale with formals $1, selected dress shows 50 cents. Children’s clothing 50 cents as well as Men and Women’s blouses. Long pants are $1. DAR Community News
The Orange William Diamond Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will participate in the DAR Day of Service on Thursday, October 11, by attending to graves of veterans in local cemeteries, collecting toiletry items for veterans, etc. Meanwhile, the next DAR monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, October 16, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1155 West Roundbunch Road, Bridge City. Anne Payne and Lois Ferrell will serve as hostesses. The program is entitled, “DAR Units Overseas,” with speaker Jackie Huckabay of Bridge City, the DAR appointed State Chair of Units Overseas and Chapter Registrar.
Huckabay has also been appointed by District V, the Magnolia Regent’s Council, as Vice President. For DAR details, call 409-735-5794.
Southeast Texas Stand Down
Beaumont Vet Center along with other social service agencies are hosting this year’s Southeast Texas Stand Down to benefit homeless Veterans and the homeless population. The event will be held at the Beaumont Civic Center on September 28, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s event features over 50 agencies working together to assist Veterans who are homeless and those without a place to call home. This is a free event.
Hunter Education Safety Class
Texas Parks & Wildlife Hunter Education Safety Class Mon and Tues Oct 15 and 16 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Vidor High School Cafeteria. Must attend both evenings and must register online at Texas Parks & Wildlife website. Certification is required if you are at least 17 years old and were born on or after Sept. 2, 1971, to hunt in Texas. You can become certified at 9 years old. This is not just for hunters, anyone with firearms can benefit from this class.
GOALS
The Greater Orange Area Literacy Services (GOALS) is now offering Reading, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Graduate High School Education (GED) tutoring to all adults 16 and older at no cost. Volunteer tutors are willing to meet once or twice a week at various locations.

Do Well Be Well with Diabetes
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension of Orange County is having a free Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes Series. This is a 5-week series on every Monday in October (Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, & 29) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Join us in learning how to prevent and control your type 2 diabetes, eat healthy and much more. Please attend all of the classes to get the full educational benefit. The classes will be located at the Extension Office on 1442 in Orange. Anger Management Classes
Wells of Agape is holding Anger Management Classes from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Life Church Orange located at 18389 Hwy. 62 in Orange (near the intersection of State Hwy. 62 and Hwy. 105 ) Requirement to receive a Certificate of Completion is $30 per person, cash only. VFW Auxiliary Garage Sale
Orange VFW Auxiliary Post 2775 will host their fall garage sale on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at the VFW Hall on Highway 87 North(5303 N. 16th St) from 7 am until 2 pm. Vendors will be able to set up on Friday, October 12th from 5 to 8 pm. Rental for tables and/or space is $10 each. CASA informational meeting

Wells of Agape is hosting the Pumpkin and Pearls fundraising gala from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, September 29th. Tickets are $60. This event will be adults only. Crochet Class
Crochet Class at 6:30 p.m. at Orange First Church of the Nazarene, 3810 M.L.K. Jr. Drive in Orange. The class is in the Dining Room behind the church. (Left side of the building)
Please bring a skein of Sports Weight yarn and a G hook. We are working on squares to be assembled into an afghan. You may keep your squares or donate them back. Donated squares will be assembled and donated to a local charity in December.

BC National Night Out
The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce will hold its 3rd annual National Night Out on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, from 6-8 pm at the Bridge City Park Pavilion. This FREE family-friendly event is open to all Bridge City/Orangefield area residents. Attendees will be treated to free food, games, give-a-ways and lots of children’s activities courtesy of local businesses and organizations. Now accepting booth reservations. Vidor National Night Out
Vidor ISD and the Vidor Police Department will bring NATIONAL NIGHT OUT to Vidor on Tuesday, October 2 from 5-7 p.m. at Pirate Stadium. There will be free hot dogs and drinks, games on the field with police officers, the Vidor Rotary green bus giving away free books to kids of all ages, and emergency vehicles galore for patrons to explore. In addition, vendors from around the area will talk about what they offer local families, including medical and dental care, food, animal care, and much much more. The Vidor Chamber of Commerce will be on hand as will Buckner’s and the YMCA. Law enforcement agencies from the county will be there with all sorts of great information. There will be some performances by Vidor ISD students and lots of cool stuff for the kids. Please come and join us!

Golden K Kiwanis meeting
Golden K Kiwanis meets every Wed. from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the meeting room of the Salvation Army Building, corner of MLK and Strickland, across from the Shell and fire station. The public is welcome to attend, and coffee is always served. Initiation of local 2018-19 officers and committee members will take place on a special induction. New main officers are Reid Caruthers, president; Dennis Ferrell, president in training 2019-20; Vern Murray, treasurer; and Pat McCombs, secretary.

Chemical Row Chili Cookoff
Chemical Row Chili Cookoff starts at 11 a.m. at DowDuPont Business Center (formerly DERA). Preorder by Oct. 1 and pay only $5 for a bowl of chili crackers and soft drink or bottled water. Orders after Oct. 1 will be $7. Delivery is available for preorders of 10 or more. Wristband to taste all entries is $20. All proceeds to benefit United Way of Orange County.
