NWS Lake Charles tropics update 8.29.18

Published 8:29 am Wednesday, August 29, 2018

This Wednesday morning, the National Hurricane Center has increased the chances for tropical development of a system that will move off the coast of Africa late Thursday or Friday. This system now has a medium 50% chance for development, mainly early next week. It poses no threat to us over the next week.

Meanwhile, we are still expecting a trough axis to cross Florida and come into the eastern Gulf of Mexico Tuesday and Wednesday next week. This system will be worth watching for potential tropical development later next week. It is too early to say if it will be a threat to our region.
We are expecting a wet forecast to continue through the remainder of this week into next week.
