Mustangs ranked No. 3 in AP preseason poll; Newton No. 1 in 3A

The preseason Associated Press state high school football poll was released Monday night.
The West Orange-Stark Mustangs are ranked No. 3 in Class 4A. WO-S has made the Class 4A Division II State Championship Game the last four years, winning it all in both 2015 and 2016.
Defending Class 4A Division I state champion Carthage is ranked No. 1 while Argyle is at No. 2.
The only other Southeast Texas team ranked in the top 10 is defending Class 3A Division II state champion Newton. The Eagles, who return 18 starters, are ranked No. 1.
The Silsbee Tigers were ranked No. 12 in Class 4A. Port Neches-Groves is No. 15 in Class 5A and Woodville is No. 22 in Class 3A.
