The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears snagged a pair of wins over the Caldwell Hornets over the weekend in warmup games before the playoffs start this week.

The Bears (28-5) defeated the Hornets 8-4 and 5-4 in the two battles.

The Bears trailed the first game 4-1 before scoring three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to snag the 5-4 win.

Taylor Gilbert had a pair of hits in the Bear win. Caldwell had eight hits and the Bears had seven,

In the 8-4 win, the Bears put together six runs in the top of the fifth to pull away.

The Bears had 12 hits in the victory while Caldwell had eight.

Gilbert, Truman Franklin and Anthony Bandiero each had two hits for the offense. Gilbert had two RBI and Chris Bilbo had one.

LC-M will take on either Huntington or Diboll in the Class 4A Region III playoffs this week. Those two are deciding the third and fourth-place playoff seeds out of 21-4A on Monday night.
