Alexandria, Va.– To help school districts that were hardest hit by the devastating storms this fall, AASA, The School Superintendents Association, contributed more than $118,000 to communities in Texas, Florida, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, including Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District and Orangefield Independent School District.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the communities severely impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria,” said Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, AASA. “We were proud to serve as a national network for public education leaders on behalf of the areas where natural disasters struck, a role we first began when Hurricane Katrina pounded New Orleans in 2005. We owe a debt of gratitude to the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA), the Texas Association of School Administrators, the Florida Association of School Administrators, the Florida Association of District School Superintendents, the AASA Executive Committee, and AASA members and staff who contributed to our relief efforts.”

Through AASA’s two-pronged approach, this relief initiative:

• Allowed superintendents to provide direct support to children and families who suffered significant hardships following the hurricanes; and
• Connected school districts who had materials and other products directly to those districts who were impacted.

AASA provided support to Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the following districts in Texas and Florida.
