Texas Rangers to investigate Livingston’s death

Press Release — On August 27, 2016, at approximately 6:00a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was notified of a possible crash near Sour Lake in Hardin County and notified the on-call Trooper. While in route to the reported crash scene, the Trooper was notified that the incident was not a crash and Sour Lake Police Department would be transporting the driver of the vehicle to the jail on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and for an outstanding warrant. The on-call Trooper was then requested to administer field sobriety tests. After conducting the field sobriety tests, the subject, Cody Livingston, was booked into the jail for the outstanding warrant at about 7:30a.m.
That same day, Cody Livingston was found unresponsive in a jail cell and transported to a local hospital by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, where he later died. The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Texas Rangers to assist with the preliminary inquiry into the death of Livingston. In order to maintain the integrity of this preliminary inquiry, additional details cannot be released.
