Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas is sponsoring its 24th Annual Third Age Day Celebration on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 3390 Sarah Street, Beaumont, beginning at 9:15am in the Parish Church.
This event is named for one of the stages of life in which we participate as social beings. The 1st Age of life is children – The Learners of Society. The 2nd Age is adults – The Earners of Society. Those in the 3rd Age of life are the “Seasoned Citizens” – The Returners of Wisdom in Society. Seniors have wisdom borne of long years of experience. This annual celebration is Catholic Charities’ way of celebrating those who have given so much to building the community of Southeast Texas and the Church in the Diocese of Beaumont.
This gathering of seniors (those age 50 and older) from across the Diocese of Beaumont’s nine counties(Chambers, Jasper, Jefferson, Hardin, Liberty, Newton, Orange, Polk and Tyler) includes a Mass celebrated by Bishop Curtis J. Guillory, SVD, D.D. at 10:00am. The Mass is preceded by a “Living Rosary” at 9:15am in the Church, and followed by a Luncheon in the Church Hall. Approximately 250 seniors are expected to attend, and several of them have celebrated annually with their fellow seniors for most of the years the event has been held.
