Here we are in the third round of the Class 4A playoffs and all four teams out of a highly competitive District 24-4A remain alive.
However, by the end of the weekend, only two will be left standing as the district teams will be matched up against each other this week.
The Silsbee Tigers (17-9), who shared the 24-4A title with the Bridge City Cardinals and entered the playoffs as 24-4A’s No. 1 seed, will take on the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears (21-10), the fourth-place team out of 24-4A, in a one-game playoff Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Jasper High School in the Region III quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, there will be a Orange County showdown in the other matchup as Bridge City (22-8-1) will take on the West Orange-Stark Mustangs (17-11-1), the third-place team out of 24-4A, in a best-of-three series.
Game One will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Lamar University in Beaumont. Game Two is slated for Friday at 7 p.m. at Jasper High School. Game Three, if necessary, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jasper High School.
All of the teams have fared well in the postseason.
LC-M stunned 23-4A champion 9-7 in the bidistrict round and then swept Caldwell 9-4 and 7-4 in the area round.
The Tigers ousted Tarkington 1-0, 3-1 in bidistrict and outlasted Navasota 0-1, 5-3, 3-1 in the area round.
