ORANGE —
It is all a matter of perception.
Tom Gier, author of Lasting Impressions: Stories from a Forensic Scientist, explains for forensics actually work in the real world versus what is seen on television.
Gier changed careers after suffering from an injury which prevented him from continuing in his original career choice. During his recovery, the O.J Simpson trials were being televised. The more he watched the trial, the more Gier became fascinated with forensic science.
Gier’s enjoyment with his new career shines through the pages of the book as one reads.
Gier walks one through cases in such a way that one feels like he is sitting across the table talking over a cup of coffee.
All the cases in the book are based on actual cases but the names and details have been changed to protect both the family of the victims and the suspects.
Lasting Impressions does just that - leaves a lasting impression on the reader.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery or would like to be educated on how forensic science helps detectives solve their cases.
Gier is currently working on a sequel to Lasting Impressions and I am looking forward to reviewing it as well when it is published.
The book was published earlier this year and is 109 pages.
