ORANGE —
Carrie Joiner Woliver, former Orange resident and author of the recently published ‘The Train Stopped in Orange’, returns for a book-signing event sponsored by the Friends of the Orange Public Library.
The event will be held 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Orange Public Library located at 220 5th Street.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
Woliver discovered her grandparents diaries from the 1917-1918, Will and Pearl Joiner.
The couple raised their family on Pine Street in Orange from the early 1900s -1950s.
Reading the diaries inspired Woliver to write the book which one returns to a different time in Orange, Texas. She includes events from her time as a teenager in Orange as well.
Woliver is a 1959 graduate of Stark High School.
The Joiners lived one block from the Southern Pacific Train Depot in 1917, which was always teeming with activity when the train stopped in Orange - thus the title of the book.
Before automobiles, the trains provided transportation between towns.
Woliver encourages anyone interested in area history to stop by as well as her classmates and any Cottle or Joiner relatives who reside in the area.
