PINE FOREST — A city looking to expand its economy just got a big boost.
Family Dollar will construct one of its newest stores in the city of Pine Forest this spring. The addition of Family Dollar could potentially generate more than $750,000 in revenue for the store and as much as $12,000 in sales tax revenue for the city.
“There are workers at the site already,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Wesley Brown. “They are digging up the area where the foundation will be and getting the site prepared.”
The new business will build upon a site selected at the corner of FM 105 and Lakeview Cutoff, which is located north of Vidor between FM 1132 and FM 1131.
“This is really a good thing for the City of Pine Forest,” Brown explained. “The more we have to offer our residents, then the more our tax base will grow. Maybe we will be able to get some more businesses after this.”
The Family Dollar location will occupy approximately 8,300 square feet and employ as many as five full-time personnel. The store is expected to be open for business in late spring.
“The man who spoke at our last council meeting said it will happen pretty quickly, once the foundation is put down,” Brown added. “They have it down to a science, as far as construction and projected opening. It’s just a matter of time now.
