ORANGE — The Stark Museum of Art in Orange, Texas, will host a “Holiday Exhibition Celebration” from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15 and Thursday, Dec. 17.
The special exhibition “Entwined across the Ages: Illuminated Manuscripts and Tapestries,” will be open; docents will give gallery introductions; and music groups will entertain visitors. In coordination with The W.H. Stark House Holiday Open House, refreshments will be served in the lobby of the Museum for visitors of the House and Museum. Admission is free.
On Tuesday, the Lone Star Pipe Band will perform traditional Celtic music on the pipes, drums and the guitar. On Thursday, holiday music selections will be played by the band students from Mauriceville Middle School and from Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School.
“The Stark Museum of Art is pleased to join with The W.H. Stark House in celebrating the holidays. As a special offering on December 15th, we are delighted to have the Lone Star Pipe Band perform with instruments including bagpipes, since early bagpipes are depicted in works of art in our special exhibition. We are also looking forward to the band performances from the Little Cypress-Mauriceville School District on December 17th; this highlights our involvement with youth and arts education,” said Museum Director Sarah Boehme. “We invite the community to take this opportunity for an evening viewing of both the Museum and the House, enjoy the arts and history, and visit with friends and neighbors over punch and cookies.”
“Entwined across the Ages: Illuminated Manuscripts and Tapestries” features the Stark Museum of Art’s collection of medieval illuminated manuscripts exhibited within a setting of twentieth-century wall tapestries that were inspired by arts from the medieval period. “Entwined across the Ages” highlights the variety and richness of manuscript illustrations in the Books of Hours and includes images of the Christmas story.
The Museum Store will be open and will feature the Museum’s 2009 Christmas ornament.
Located at 712 Green Ave. in Orange, Texas, the Stark Museum of Art is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. The Museum is closed Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day. Group tours are available by appointment.
