BBB revokes accreditation of 2 businesses

BEAUMONT — The Better Business Bureau in Southeast Texas has revoked the BBB Accreditation of two businesses. The revocations were approved by the BBB Board of Directors at its September meeting.

The BBB Accreditation revocation of All-Pro Construction and Remodeling, located in Silsbee, was due to the businesses failure to make a good faith effort to resolve two complaints by participation in mediation and or arbitration, two unanswered complaints along with one unresolved complaint.

The BBB Accreditation revocation of Simoneaux’s Roofing and Remodeling, located in Nederland, was due to the businesses failure to make a good faith effort to resolve one complaint by participation in arbitration along with two unresolved complaints.

Thus, both businesses failing to comply with Code of Business Practices Standards for BBB Accreditation #6A and #6B which states BBB Accredited Businesses will be responsive, addressing marketplace disputes quickly, professionally, and in good faith.

The Code of Business Practices requires Accredited Businesses to promptly respond to all complaints forwarded by the BBB by: (1) Resolving the complaint directly with the complainant and notifying the BBB, or (2) Providing the BBB with a response that the BBB determines: is professional, addresses all of the issues raised by the complainant, includes appropriate evidence and documents supporting the business’ position, and explains why any relief sought by the complainant cannot or should not be granted.

The section of the code in question continues by requiring that a BBB Accredited Business must make a good faith effort to resolve disputes, which includes mediation if requested by the BBB. Other dispute resolution options, including arbitration, may be recommended by the BBB when other efforts to resolve a dispute have failed. The BBB may consider a business’ willingness to participate in recommended dispute resolution options in determining compliance with these standards.

Per the Better Business Bureau by-laws, All-Pro Construction and Remodeling and Simoneaux’s Roofing and Remodeling have 30 days upon notification to appeal the decision to the Board Chairperson for review by the Board or Executive Committee.

“Businesses who apply for BBB Accreditation must meet the eight standards in the BBB Code of Business Practices, and they must maintain those standards to continue their BBB Accredited Business affiliation,” said BBB President and CEO Michael Clayton.
