VIDOR —
Disc Golf is one of the fastest growing sports around the world.
Claiborne West Park is the location for the Orange County Disc Golf Course. The sport is played by a wide range of individuals and considered one of the greatest lifetime fitness sports available.
The Orange County Disc Golf Charter raised $1,546 and 1,313 pounds of food for the Southeast Texas Food Bank and Orange Christian Services during the Orange County Ice Bowl 2013 on Jan. 26.
“It was the first annual Ice Bowl,” Rodney Ellis, board chairman of the Orange County Disc Gold Club and board member of the Golden Triangle Disc Golf Club.
Ellis said there were participants from Austin, Galveston and Louisiana in the tournament.
The organization meets 9:30 a.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday each week.
Disc Golf is played by throwing a disc from a ‘tee’ area to an elevated basket. The golfer plays through the fairway until the disc lands in the basket, thus completing the hole, as in regular golf.
Anyone interested in learning more about the sport or participating are welcomed to visit the Claiborne West Park Copperhead Disc Golf Course.
The organization is hoping to announce the dates for the Handicap Sporting League Tournament/Family Day soon.
