The driver of a semi-truck was cited for an unsafe lane change following a collision with a school bus on Thursday.
A West Orange-Cove Consolidated Independent School District school bus was traveling south on State Highway 87 Thursday morning, when an 18-wheeler turned from FM 1006 onto Highway 87. The driver of the truck tractor made an unsafe lane change striking the school bus, according to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety. At the time of the crash, there were 30 students on the bus.
The students and the bus driver did not sustain any injuries and were transferred onto another school bus to return to school. However, the bus sustained moderate damage which included several windows along the side of the bus being cracked.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, 44-year-old Troy Chavis of Missouri City, Texas was uninjured. Troopers cited Chavis for an unsafe lane change.
