VFW and Ladies Auxiliary start new year with new officers
ORANGE — Orange Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2775 and The Ladies Auxiliary kicked off the new fiscal year with a Barbecue and Membership Drive with Post Commander George Jones and Auxiliary President Gail Duhon leading the event.
Other post officers are: Sr. Vice, Robert LaFleur; Jr. Vice, Dennis Helwig; Quartermaster, Bill Dunn; Adjutant/Service Officer, John Clark; Chaplain, Hank Perkins; Surgeon, Johnathan Hickman; Judge Advocate, Jim Brewer; and Three Year Trustee/House Committee Chairman, Wilbert Duhon.
Auxiliary officers are: Sr. Vice, Joyce Romero, Jr. Vice, Geri Bean; Treasurer, Patricia Kemp; Secretary, Jeanette Clark; Chaplain, Margaret Malone; Conductress, Lesly Suppes; Guard, Brenda Perkins; and Patriotic Instructor, Linda Kam.
Most members also work programs and other activities carried on at the post.
Members are getting ready to visit local schools and distribute materials for the Annual Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Scholarship contest for 9th through 12th grades, Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest for sixth through eighth graders and Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year for kindergarten through fifth grade, sixth grade through eighth grade, and high school level. They will be in the schools soon after the new year begins. These all have a November 1st deadline, as well as Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, Fireman of the Year and EMT of the year.
Other programs with a later deadline are Scout of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year, Patriotic Art Contest and Orange Memorial Scholarship Program and Auxiliary State Nursing Scholarship. The auxiliary has a number of other programs they work or support, such as Cancer Aid and Research, Community Service, National Home, Legislative, Buddy Poppy, Hospital and Veterans and Family Services.
There are also scholarship programs for VFW and auxiliary members. All information on these programs will be placed in local papers as they become available, along with contacts and numbers.
Each year over $3,000 in Scholarships and Bonds alone are awarded at the annual Loyalty Day Awards Program. Many other awards of recognition and cash are also presented then.

Sabine FCU receives commercial beautification award
J. David Derosier, Chairman of Keep Orange County Beautiful (KOCB,) presents the Second Quarter Commercial Beautification Award to Linda Cupit, CEO of Sabine Federal Credit Union (SFCU) at their main office on Strickland Drive in Pinehurst. Senior officials from the Credit Union together with Ambassadors of the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce attended the event.
