The South East Texas Regional Planning Commission (SETRPC) held two public hearings to gather public comments on Tuesday concerning new projects.
Regional Public Transportation addressed the transit needs of the community and is working on a universal buss pass for all transit systems between Orange, Beaumont and Port Arthur.
SETRPC covers the Jefferson, Orange and Hardin Counties.
The coordination is working towards seamless travel around the region and between transit services.
These meetings were designed to solicit resident’s ideas and input on possible transit changes and improvements that can help create better connections throughout the region.
The public hearing was informal, with Megan Campbell, GIS analyst/transportation planner or Bob Dickinson, director of South East Texas Regional Planning Commission available to speak one-on-one with each person who attended. Campbell and Dickinson spoke with each person individually while confirming if all the person’s questions were answered.
The Transportation Improvement Program portion of the hearing included the project to install a right turn lane at Vidor Elementary, and the construction of a railroad grade separation on Old Highway 90, south of the Interstate 10 access road.
The two projects will cost a total of $10,095,997. Federal funding for the projects is $5,269,115.
The public is encouraged to provide written comments by 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013.
