HOUSTON —
A deputy serving an aggravated assault warrant at a Houston-area home has shot and killed the suspect who hid in a closet before allegedly threatening officers.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office on Thursday identified the suspect as 37-year-old Garret Perkins.
Authorities say the suspect's girlfriend let deputies into the home Wednesday night. Perkins was located in a closet and refused to come out. Perkins appeared to have a shiny object in his hand and allegedly made a sudden move toward officers when he was shot.
Perkins died later at a hospital.
The deputy who fatally shot the suspect wasn't hurt. He's been put on paid leave.
