HOUSTON —
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the convictions of two men condemned for the deaths of law enforcement officers.
The state's highest criminal appeals court Wednesday rejected appeals from 25-year-old Daniel Lopez and 42-year-old Jerry Martin.
Lopez was condemned for running down Stuart Alexander during a wild 2009 chase as the Corpus Christi police lieutenant was deploying spike strips on a highway to stop him.
Martin and a fellow inmate stole a truck while on a prison work detail in Huntsville in 2007 and drove into a horse carrying corrections Officer Susan Canfield. She was killed. The prison escape failed.
