ORANGE —
Jesus said the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy everything he can in our lives. But that’s not our real problem. Our problem is that we don’t get tired of it enough to do something about it.
Thirteen different times in the book of Judges Israel was brought into poverty and near slavery by her enemy nations. It took them a while, but when they finally had enough they cried out to God for help (Judges 6:6); without exception, a deliverer was sent and the enemy was defeated.
How many battles are we willing to lose? How many teenagers will be lost? How many marriages destroyed? How many financial failures? How low will we allow our sinful habits to take us before we say it’s enough, until we cry out to God “change our ways and recover our losses”?
There was a time when many of us first understood so little about spiritual warfare that we would just rebuke the devil. Often this was without success. James 4:7 tells us to submit ourselves to God. Then it says we can resist the devil and he will flee from us. Submission is not just something we say, but what we do. It simply means to put God first in our life.
When Jesus told us to seek first the Kingdom of God and all things would be added to us, first didn’t mean that I should start my week with God or every morning with Him and then do whatever I please with the rest of my time. First means that everything else is based upon the fact that it is in the purpose and plan of God for me.
Therefore, when what I do, how I use my time, how I spend my money, what entertainment I enjoy, and every decision I make is first checked out with His will, then I can rise up, take my stand and resist the devil and bring God’s control into my world.
I don’t think we realize the exceeding greatness of His power that has been given to us. Is anyone sick and tired enough to put a stop to the destructive forces in their life?
