City of Orange Police Department are searching for individuals who have passed counterfeit money recently.
“The individuals are not suspects,” Captain Cliff Hardgrave of the Orange police department said. “We are talking to everyone involved to track down where it is coming from.”
There are five reports of businesses receiving counterfeit $20 bills since Oct. 4. and one for a counterfeit $100.
“The paper is the giveaway,” Hardgrave said. “It does not feel the same as regular currency.”
Pilot Travel Center, located at 2205 Highway 62, reported receiving four such bills at 12:54 a.m. on Thursday. The person paid for gas and cigarettes and asked for three $20 bills to be exchanged for tens. The cashier discovered the twenties were counterfeit while the individual was still pumping gas. The employee approached the individual at the gas pump. The man hung up the gas pump and left in his vehicle.
The man was described as a while male, approximately 27 years old, 5’8” with short dirty blond hair, green eyes wearing a black shirt and green shorts. The man was driving Chevrolet S-10 type gold pick-up truck.
Kroger, located at 1600 16th Street in Orange, reported receiving two counterfeit bills on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
Waffle House located at 2310 Highway 62 in Orange reported two fake bills were reported on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
A manager from Waffle House, according to police reports, said the Waffle House at 4212 27th Street also received a counterfeit bill the week prior.
A police report said that police were sent to the 1900 block of MLK in reference to a customer attempting to purchase gasoline with counterfeit money on Saturday, Oct. 6.
Strickland Drive Washateria located at 801 Strickland a man made a purchase using a counterfeit $100 bill.
