ORANGE —
A man lead Orange Police Department officers on a chase 1 p.m. Sunday.
An officer saw a vehicle disregard the train crossing signals near Allie Payne and Highway 87. The crossing had red flashing lights, bells active and both crossing arms were completely down, according to police reports, when the car drove around the crossing arms to cross the tracks. The report states the officer observed a train in close proximity of the crossing at the time.
The officer proceeded to initiate a traffic stop, which the car ignored.
The vehicle led the officers on a chase down Allie Payne and through Fox Run Apartment parking lot.
The driver opened the door at one point, look back at the officer, closed the door and then accelerated the vehicle.
When the car came to a complete stop, the officer was forced to slide his car to a stop causing his vehicle to strike the car in chase. The collision caused the car, still in drive to proceed forward and make contact with a parked truck.
The damage to all three vehicles was described as minor damage.
The man proceeded to flee on foot, leaving two passengers still in the vehicle.
The officer said the man ignored all commands to stop running and to lay on the ground.
Attempts to use a taser on the individual were fruitless, as the man tripped when the taser was shot causing it to miss the man.
The officer tackled the man, who responded by attempting to strike at the officer.
Other officers arrived to help secure the man.
When the man stood up a roll of cash rolled up with what is believed to be 1.6 grams of crack cocaine was discovered.
The man was arrested for evading arrest with a vehicle, resisting arrest, and possession of a controlled substance.
The passengers were not arrested.
