VIDOR —
Vidor Police Department detectives had several tense moments Thursday after encountering a man on Millie Street with a military-type rifle.
VPD Chief Dave Shows said detectives went to the home to gather information from a person and a misunderstanding led a man to grab a rifle.
Shows said no charges have been filed because the man never pointed the weapon at law officers.
The encounter last about 20 minutes Shows reported.
Shows said after handling the rifle, the man placed the weapon in his vehicle and went inside the home.
Officers called the home and left messages on the answering machine. The man later came out to talk to officers after calling a relative who advised the man to go back outside.
“There really was no violation of the law,” Shows said.
