ORANGE —
One man will think twice before giving officers a false name in the future.
An Orange police officer stopped a truck just after midnight on Thursday at the 1900 block of South Highway 87 in Orange, for not displaying a license plate light.
The driver of the vehicle gave the officer his name and date of birth verbally.
A copy of the police report notes the officer noticed the man was hesitant and appeared nervous.
The passenger of the truck also was identified.
A routine warrant check showed the driver had a possible warrant and the man did not have a valid driver’s license but the birth dates did not match. The date was off by one day.
The man told the officer the date matching the warrant.
While waiting for dispatch to confirm the warrant, the man gave the officer permission to be searched for weapons.
The man had a pair of brass knuckles and a butterfly knife, both illegal weapons, in his possession.
On the way to the jail, the man said he lied about his name. A check on that name showed the man had a valid driver’s license and no warrants.
A prior booking photo confirmed his identity as the second name he provided.
He was charged with fail to identify. The man was also issued three citations for drove without corrective lenses, no license plate light, and failure to maintain financial responsibility.
