Toy gun causes stir at Little Cypress Junior High

LITTLE CYPRESS — A student carrying a toy gun to school was treated as a real threat on Wednesday.

Administrators with the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District confirmed the report of a student carrying a gun to school at Little Cypress Junior High on Wednesday. Although the weapon appeared to be real, it was later determined to be a toy.

Law enforcement personnel were summoned to the school Wednesday afternoon after school personnel learned a student was reported to be carrying a weapon. School administrators followed protocol by summoning law enforcement and activating the district’s emergency procedures for such a situation.

Law enforcement officers arrived and determined the gun to be a toy. District officials stated the student and “supposed” weapon were turned over to authorities.

“Any threat is taken with all seriousness by both the district Administration and law enforcement and actions are taken accordingly,” stated Sherry Combs, LC-M CISD Community Relations. Little Cypress Junior High parents were notified of the incident through the district’s automated messaging system.”

Parents who did not receive the notification via phone or e-mail should check with the campus to make sure their correct contact information is on file.
