The city of West Orange debated this week whether to put in place yet another ordinance concerning garage sale signs put out by residents.
This proposed new ordinance is not needed in a town the size of West Orange.
Garage sale signs have been discussed before and it makes one wonder who exactly is complaining about the signs. Why are the signs such a problem in the city of West Orange and not everywhere else?
Garage sales have become very important to many residents who rely on the funds during tough economic times. Yet the fact remains the signs do need to be taken down when the time comes because too many left untouched will become community eyesores.
Continuous garage sales hinder local small businesses who depend on customers who are seeking products. West Orange should enforce and regulate any and all state and local laws already in place concerning continuos garage sales and the signs people leave behind.
In the end this debate is much ado about nothing. Laws and ordinances are already in place and now it is up to the city to enforce them to keep West Orange looking its best.
