Cheers and Jeers for Friday, July 15

— Cheers to former Bridge City High School cross country standouts Mary Nguyen, Kirby Sheperd and Armando Chavez for signing to run at the college level at Southern Arkansas University.

Jeers to former Vidor Councilwoman Angela Brading. Brading missed a staggering six of eight meetings from March 10 through June 9. The meetings of the Vidor council have been very important the last few months and this many absences are inexcusable. We completely understand the no-shows were due to health reasons and do not take anyone’s health lightly. However, a spot on the council is an elected position and the citizens deserve to have someone at all times standing up for their needs and making sure their voices are heard. We hope all local councils in the future find a way to better serve the community when a majority of meetings cannot be met by a councilman.

Jeers to President Obama and his lashing at members of the press for shouting unscripted questions during a PRESS conference. The shouting part is wrong on the media’s end yet the public has the right to ask questions, even when it does not fit into an elected officials “scripted” schedule.

Left my mom a heavy load
She tried so very hard to fill his shoes
    Working hours without rest
Wanted me to have the best”

  • Sen. Robert Nichol - My five cents...

Special sessions are an interesting phenomenon: Rather than having multiple policy areas vying for legislators' attention, we are able to concentrate all our energy on a narrow number of topics.
