Ruby Taylor Wharton
Ruby Taylor Wharton was born September 27th 1910 in Lipan, Hood County, Texas to the union of Monroe and Alice Sarter Taylor. She perished April 12, 2007 in Houston, Texas from complications due to Leukemia.
Ruby remained active and independent for 93 years with the help of wonderful relatives and close friends in the Weatherford, Texas area. She lived her final three years with, and being cared for by, her devoted son and his wife Hogan and Mary Wharton of Houston. Ruby was an incredible homemaker. She enjoyed china painting, sewing for family, cooking and telling family stories. She was the ever-present teacher of family history. She preserved family heirlooms and made sure her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren knew their value. This was her wonderful legacy.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy A. Wharton, oldest son James A. Wharton, and her beloved siblings Arlie Taylor, Floyce Taylor and Flora Rockwell.
She is survived by her son R.G. “Hogan” Wharton and wife Mary of Houston, Daughter-in-law Dorothy Wharton of League City, Texas. Grandchildren Mike Wharton of Houston, Mindy Stubbs and husband Tom of Sugar Land, Drew Wharton, and wife, Sarah of Pearland, Lisa Wharton of League City, and Greg Wharton, and wife Tina of San Antonio. Survivors also include niece Doylene and husband Billy Ray Evans of Proctor, Texas, Richard and Joan Rockwell, David and Carlene Rockwell of Weatherford, Texas and Celia Ann Bagley, and husband John of Kokomo, Indiana. Lastly, she is survived by the apples of her eye her great grandchildren Lindsi, Ty, Sarah, Meghann, Scott, Chris, Lauren, Rachel and Tyler.
Ruby will be laid to rest alongside her husband in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lipan, Texas. The ceremony will be graveside and is tentatively set for Sunday, April 29th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers; please make donations to the Samuel Sorrell Chapter of the D.A.R. to be forwarded to the Fisher House Foundation P.O. Box 2938 Sugar Land, Texas 77478.
