Joe Mandina, 89, Hereford resident died March 5, 2013 at the Thomas E. Creek VA Nursing Home in Amarillo.
A Graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 am, Friday, at West Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hereford
Heritage Funeral Home, 411 E 6th Street.
Joe was born December 3, 1923 in Port Arthur, Texas to Joseph and Rosalia DeBartols Mandina, an Italian-American family. He came to Hereford in 1979. Joe was a veteran of the US Army serving his country from 1943 to 1946.He was a Sergeant and received the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Ribbon. He married Ella Donna Fountain on July 24, 1971 in Orange, Texas. Joe opened a cobbler shop in Hereford in 1979 and operated it until 1989. In 2011 Joe went to live at the Amarillo VA Nursing Home until his death. Joe was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Plumbers Union and the Hereford Masonic Lodge # 849 A.F. & A.M.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Pauline Rosalia Mandina and wife, Ella Donna Mandina.
Survivors include his dear friend and caregiver, Alice Lueb and a host of many friends both here in the United States and Italy.
It was Joe’s wishes that memorials be donated to your favorite charity of choice.
Military honors will be provided by the Hereford High School Marine Corps JROTC.
